Storage iSCSI is a data storage system that utilizes the Internet protocol as a standard for linking data storage facilities. Unlike Fibre Channel systems that need special wiring, iSCSI offers the flexibility of distance and place of storage, because data can be transmitted via a LAN, WAN, or Internet.
"We identified that the future trend leads to the iSCSI storage," said Dell Country Manager Indonesia, Pieter Lydian, at his office in Menara BCA, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
Despite the overall storage market, Dell is still below IBM, Hitachi, EMC, and HP, but based on the IDC report, Dell dominated the iSCSI storage market in Indonesia with 31.7 percent market share.
To strengthen its position in the iSCSI storage market, Dell Indonesia also plans to enlarge its human resources up to three times of the initial in the next few months.
Dell began aggressively marketing its own new line of iSCSI storage in Indonesia since last 1-2 years. Dell EqualLogic storage carrying the PS series which claimed to have the flexibility and scalability that is better than the other storage-in-class storage.
Dell EqualLogic offers three models, namely for SMEs PS 4000, PS 6000 / 6500 for the enterprise, and PS 6010 / 6510 which is also intended for enterprise customers
